My Turn For The Blog Tour

We're going on a tour, but not to Paris....sorry.  I was invited by Marie at Normal Everyday Life to participate in the Blog Tour - thank you Marie!.  You've probably seen this making its way around the blogosphere.  I was asked to answer the following four questions, and at the end I've passed the honor on to two bloggers that I admire.  My blog is only three months old, so today you get the perspective of a newbie.  It won't be nearly as exciting as a sightseeing tour of Paris - but...I hope you read along anyway.

What am I working on?

When I started blogging, I had no idea how time consuming it would be.  It's not a bad thing - it just takes a lot of time.   So basically, I'm doing nothing else but working on this blog :)  My husband and I own a business, and I am fortunate enough to work from home. Whenever hubby comes into the office, I pretend I'm NOT working on my blog!  I have about fifty posts started in my drafts folder, and I'm thinking about updating my design. Someday I'd like to branch out and do more freelance writing,  but that's probably a far away someday.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Well...I'm not really sure it does.  I'm a "lifestyle" blogger with two teenage boys - not exactly new.  Figuring out how to stand out is something I've been thinking about quite a bit.  I believe every blog is different because WE are different, and offer our own unique perspective, even if we're blogging about the same topic.  At the same time, I'd like to be able to offer something that is unique.  Obviously, I didn't do much research before I jumped in and hit publish on my first post, but I've always liked to learn as I go.

Why do I write/create what I do?

I started blogging for me.  My nest will be empty within the next few years, and I was floundering trying to figure out what to do with myself once the boys don't need me so much.  I have always loved to write (remember those blue test booklets in school?  It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy just thinking about them), and I was searching for a creative outlet.  I enjoy owing a business, but let's face it, door hardware isn't exactly creative.  However, now I'm also enjoying blogging for the sense of community and friendships I've found.  I love sitting down and sharing where I am in my life with all of you.

What is your writing process?

I'm a very bad blogger, because I don't have one.  Another goal - I better write that down! Even though I have those fifty thoughts sitting in the drafts folder, I always seem to be writing at 11pm, putting the finishing touches on the next day's post.  Usually I sit down and let the words pour out, then I come back and tweak it later.  That way I can get all the ideas out of my head before they disappear into the black hole!

Now it's time to introduce you to the two wonderful bloggers I've chosen to pass the blog tour torch on to!  Apparently I'm attracted to bloggers named Susan :).  They are both extremely talented.  Check out their blogs, and visit them again next Monday when they will be continuing the tour.

Susan at the most - - of every moment traveled the world, and became a nurse, wife, and mother of two children before she decided to pursue her passion for writing.  On her blog she provides glimpses of her travels and life in Montana, and shares ideas, tips, recipes, projects, informational anecdotes, and thoughts about finding ways to make the most -- of every moment.

Living in Warrenton, Virgina, Susan Maccarelli is mommy to two toddlers, wife to a work-from-home husband, and she derives constant inspiration for her blog, Pecked To Death By Chickens, from life's little annoyances.  PTDBC is home to many humorous posts about life's minor annoyances, a Friday series of stupid and silly Craigslist postings, and sometimes Susan even writes something to help other bloggers (because once you have been blogging for 6 months you are totally an expert and can start doling out advice to others).  You will also find stories that are a bit more serious/poignant when Susan wishes to show her soft underbelly (sadly this is a euphemism AND a literal description).

Finally, since I did tease you at the beginning of this post about a tour of Paris, enjoy!

  6. You're smart to write it all down before you forget! I keep a note pad right by the bed because I do my best brain storming just before I fall asleep.
