My New Happy: NYC Fashion Week

NYC Fashion Week

Going to fall Fashion Week in New York City has always been on my bucket list. Probably never going to happen though - the shows are "invite only", and unless I'm about to become famous for some reason, I probably will not get one of those invitations.  Oh well.

I have a fashion degree, so I've studied clothing from every angle.  In my opinion, haute couture or "high fashion" is artistic, creative and very beautiful.  The fashions we see walking the runway aren't meant for most people to wear in real life.  Rather, popular trends are modified to make them accessible to the general public.  Wearable art becomes wearable clothing.

This year's shows launched on Thursday and will run until September 11th.  Over 80 designers will showcase their spring/summer 2015 collections during Fashion Week, including 15 new up and comers.

Even though I can't be there, I'll probably spend a little time this weekend watching a few shows on the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Live website.  I'm especially excited to see Mara Hoffman and Vivienne Tam.  If I find something we all MUST be wearing next spring, I'll report back :)!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  4. Confession: I've never understood why anyone has any desire to see all those high fashion styles that are so irrelevant to daily living and dressing. I live close to NYC and get some invites to fashion week events and I've never had any desire to go. I feel like I should care, but . . . let me know if you see anything I should know about! :-)

    1. Invites to fashion week that you have turned down? Swooning over here :)! I completely understand where you are coming from. To me, high fashion is artwork - so it would be like seeing an original painting rather than a picture of it, if that makes sense. Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

  5. That's on my bucket list too just to see the interesting runway designs and how you can modify them into something for real life!

  6. We get to learn something new about you every day! I wish I was much better at it. I guess that comes from having 4 brothers and no sisters.
