5 Things I Miss About My Teen Years

It's time to linkup with the Lifestyle Sistas again, and our topic this week is 5 Things I Miss About My Teens.  I was a teenager during the 80's, and there are lots of things that really should stay there - the hair, the fashion, Milli Vanilli.  Here's what I do miss though....

--John Hughes' movies.  Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and my very favorite, Sixteen Candles.  This movie came out during my Junior year of high school, and I used to pretend that I was Molly Ringwald - except no one actually forgot my birthday and Anthony Michael Hall wasn't trying to get my underwear.  John Hughes was the master at capturing the 80's teen experience, and I really miss his storytelling.

--Being able to eat anything I wanted and still weighing 100 pounds.  Enough said.

--Not having to carry a cell phone.  Our electronic devices definitely have their place, and I wouldn't know what to do without mine today.  But it was so nice to leave the house and be completely free.  Can you imagine lugging one of these around?

--MTV.  I love music and I still really enjoy music videos.  Back in 1981 when MTV debuted, they showed music videos all the time.  I remember having slumber parties in my parents basement with my friends and watching hours and hours of MTV.  It was glorious.

--Scott Baio.  No discussion of my teen years would be complete without mentioning Scott - my first celebrity crush.  One Saturday my best friend and I spent hours papering my room with pictures of him from Teen Beat magazine.  I was so happy - until my mom came in and made me take them all down.  Sigh.  By the way, I still think he's a cutie. First crushes die hard.

I hope you'll link up below, or join us in two weeks for our 5 Fitness Tidbits.

  1. What a great post! The image of the cell phone is priceless. I'm so glad that their were no cell phones when I grew up, we relied on paper notes!

  2. Scott Baio! LOL I met him at some auto show back-in-the-day and got his autograph. My first ever boyfriend looked an awful lot like him. {sigh} Thanks for the trip down memory lane : )

My hearts always been with James Spader. I feel like I've grown with him literally, puffy cheeks, belly and still sexy. Thank you for being brave and sharing your thoughts.

  9. Great post! I was too busy writing about Halloween to participate this week.
Some things I miss about my teen years:
Not having to do everyone's laundry!
Living on the island of Mallorca, Spain.
    My mom's cooking.
Waiting for the mail to come, and the feeling you got if something was for you!
All the free time and freedom from responsibilities other than schoolwork.
That being said ... I'm happy in this decade too!
    Happy weekend!

  13. The 80's was such a fun time though! I loved 16 Candles! My daughter had a talk the other day. SHE HAS NO IDEA ABOUT FERRIS BUELLER"S DAY OFF! I should arrest myself for parental neglect! We're trying to find it so I can share it with her! I'm sure growing in her generation she will never comprehend it but I loved it. It's probably one of my favorite movies. MTV was the best thing we had going and I watched it endlessly. I remember when we waited forever for the release of Micheal Jackson's Thriller video, it was like a movie. So many great memories. I'm curious what year was you born I'm 1970. I know I am way behind but catching up!

  14. I know it's not the same as MTV, but do you watch videos on Vevo? People are still making videos, they're just playing them online now. :/
