Rock The Vote

Tomorrow is Election Day, and this weekend my hubby and I filled out our mail-in ballots, which I will drop off at City Hall.  We have voted in some capacity since we were eighteen, but this year something was different - our older son C voted with us.

We've always talked to our boys about the importance of voting, and before our county went to all mail-in ballots, we took them with us to the polling place.  My husband says "you can't complain if you don't vote" - and trust me, we like to complain in this house. So we vote!

C took his ballot and the Voter's Pamphlet and headed off to his room to vote in private. It drove my hubby crazy that he didn't know what C was up to, but deep down I know he was proud that he was taking this duty seriously.

Unfortunately, C doesn't have a lot of company.  There are 86 million millennials in the United States, but polls estimate that only 1 in 4 of them plan to vote this year.  Many young adults don't believe that politicians are addressing issues that matter to them, and they don't feel that their vote will mean anything.

Rock The Vote is trying to change that.  Founded in 1990, Rock The Vote is a non-partisan, non-profit organization using pop culture, music, celebrities and technology to drive youth to exercise their right to vote.  They are constantly working on ways to make voting easier and more appealing, and to inspire political activity among our youth.

Their motto is "We don't care who you vote for - we just want you to vote".  A truly important goal for the future of our country.

Next year this guy will also be voting with us - or maybe running for office himself?

T was at the thrift store with his friends and found this leather jacket.  Luckily it didn't come home with him.

  1. Love that look on him- it totally should have came home. All he needs is some oversized cords, an old man collar and a pipe.

    1. He's my fashion guy. I honestly spend more money on clothes for him than for myself.

  2. Great post Lana on an important topic. Good for C - and, if only the sleeves of that jacket had been a bit longer .... ;-0

I can't believe you'll have another voter in the house next year! And such a handsome one too.
