My New Happy: I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas

I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas

I live near Seattle, where it doesn't snow very often.  You'd think that being so far north we would get lots of snow, but the warming effect of the Puget Sound takes care of that. When it does snow, it's usually a few inches at most, and it melts very quickly.  Which isn't to say that the city doesn't come to a complete standstill.  We're built on a hill, people.

According to weather statistics, Seattle has a 0-10% chance of a white Christmas in any given year.  I've experienced two in my lifetime, and they were wonderful.  The first was in 1990, when my newlywed hubby and I woke up to 6 inches of freshly fallen beauty on Christmas morning.

The second was in 2008, and that was a year for the record books.  The snow started falling about a week before Christmas, and before the storms were done we had two feet on the ground at our house.

I don't know if I'm just conditioned by the media to equate snow with Christmas, or if it's because Santa lives at the North Pole, but it seemed extra Christmas-y that year.

Abby was very impressed by the snow
It will probably be a while before we have another white Christmas, so I'll keep dreaming about 2008 until then.  Or I could travel to Butte, Montana, which statistically has the best chance of snow on Christmas in the lower 48 states, at 88%.  Birmingham, Alabama has a 0% chance, so I guess I won't go there.

Wherever you live, and whether or not you have snow, have a very blessed and happy Christmas Eve!

  6. Forget Butte, Lana! You have had some good offers here - or you could just come see me! It started snowing this afternoon and there is a thick covering out there now. It was warm and melting all week though, so the roads are pretty treacherous underneath.
Snow or not - I hope your Christmas is wonderful! Happy Holidays!!
Love these photos - great post!

  8. I remember that 2008 snow, it was so beautiful! Last year we had that snow on that Saturday night that caused everyone to get stuck on the way home, including our son. Hubby had to go out and rescue him and bring him home. People think it's the drivers but really, it's the hills. Even a teeny, tiny hill can become impossible in the snow.

    1. I hate it when people pick on us for shutting down in the snow. But you're right, the hills are so difficult - and we don't have the proper snow removal equipment. It's pretty though!

  9. I've lived in SC for three years and it's only snowed once and that was last year. I drive 12 hours Christmas Day so I never want to see a White Christmas!
