Pie & Other Fall Things

I'm linking up today with the fun over at The Miss Elaine-ous Life to talk about Pie & Other Fall Things.  It's been awhile since I participated, but Tamara's blog reminded me, and since Halloween is only a few days away...

What is your favorite Halloween candy?  Can I answer "all of them"? Probably not, so I'll pick M&M's, since they're my favorite candy in general.  But you don't really see a lot of M&M's given out on Halloween.  Which is sad.

What is one of the worst "treats" you ever received in your candy bag? When I lived in North Carolina, our next door neighbor was a dentist, and he gave out toothbrushes every Halloween.  I guess the intention was good, but really?  It's almost as bad as a rock.

What was one of your favorite costumes you wore when you were a kid?  I honestly can't remember a single costume, other than those hard plastic masks, and my parents weren't great about taking pictures.  So instead, here's T as a zombie Michael Jackson.  One of my favorites of all time.

How about your favorite costume as an adult?  Again, I've got nothing. I've dressed as a witch to humor my kids, but I'm pretty lame in the costume area.

What scares you the most on Halloween?  Spiders?  Zombies?  Axe murderers? Eyeballs in a jar...(or something else)?  Living in Seattle, the answer has to be rain. Each day for a week before Halloween, every parent is double checking the weather forecast, hoping for a break on Halloween night.  It is truly miserable to go trick or treating in the pouring rain.  Which is why I usually sent my husband.

So then, what is your favorite scary movie?  Don't have one, because I don't like them. I'm a big wimp and have trouble sleeping afterward.  Military Wife And Pug Life has a great list of movies to watch on Halloween, if you're into that kind of thing.  I won't be watching with you.

What is your favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal?  If you're my dad, it's always the turkey leg.  I'm more of a dessert person.

What is your favorite piece of clothing or accessory to wear in the fall? Scarves. And sweaters.  And boots.  Pretty much all the fall clothes.

What is your favorite pie?  It's a toss up between chocolate cream and pumpkin. Every year I say I'm going to make a pumpkin pie in July, but I never do.

Do you live where there are four seasons?  If so, where is your favorite place to see the fall colors?  The four seasons in Seattle are Winter Rain, Spring Rain, Summer, and Fall Rain.  Nah, it's not that bad.  And we definitely get beautiful fall colors, which I can see right outside my door.  But a drive up into the mountains is always fun too.

What is your favorite fall tradition?  Visiting the pumpkin patch and scaring the kids in the corn maze.  Except this year.  The boys have been too busy, so we went to the "Walmart" Pumpkin Patch (I'm hanging my head in shame) - and we still haven't carved them.

Is there anything else special about the Fall to you?  It's my favorite season, which is why we got married in the Fall.  There's a sense of renewal, a crispness in the air, and anticipation of the holidays around the corner. It's pretty perfect.

  1. I love the Fall... the crunchy colorful leaves and all the great smells. I don't have a favorite costume for me either but my oldest was a bumble bee... unfortunately we didn't take a lot of pictures then. I'm pretty sure I'd take rain over snow as last Winter traumatized me... Have a great Halloween Lana xox ♡

  2. Great list of favourites! I think the highest on my list is the crispness in the air!

  3. Autumn is also my favourite season, mostly because of the clothes and the weather, but also because of the cold mornings, warm afternoons, and bright skies. It is just so nice to be done with sweaty summer! xx

    1. I have to agree this year - our summer was very hot, and we have no air conditioning. The cooler temperatures are very welcome!

  5. At least you're ahead of me! I havem't bought the first pumpkin yet! There is a dentist in our area that buys back the kids' candy on November 1st every year. So many cents per ounce.

  6. Haha! We had a dentist in our neighborhood too and always got toothbrushes! Fall fashion is my favorite and we haven't gotten around to carving our pumpkins this year either!

  7. This was fun! : )

While I too love fall I don't care that winter is hot on its heels. I'd rather take a rainy winter than a snowy winter any day. After living on Vancouver Island for 2 years I'd go back to that weather in an instant.

  9. Grinned at the "... almost as bad as a rock." I mean, seriously? What was he thinking? My kids' dentist always nattered on about making sure they didn't eat any candy during the month of October which made for great hilarity on the car rides home. Good luck with that advice.
As my two are away at college, I went to the pumpkin patch with my friend's daughter. Lovely to borrow a 21 year-old.

  10. That is sad about M&Ms! I find we get a lot of fun-sized packets. I love peanut butter best but I don't think they come in fun-sized.
The turkey leg photo is fantastic.
Also, I had chocolate cream pie with my breakfast.
