My New Happy: January In Numbers

January In Numbers

My ever creative friend Deena recaps each month with a numbers post, and I thought I'd join in the fun.  As per usual, January has gone by so fast - but we're halfway through winter, so that's the good news.  Here's what went on around here this month:

31 days without shopping.  I even went to the mall for a hair color appointment, did some browsing, and bought nothing.  I'm having fun wearing what's in my closet.

2 lunch/dinner dates with C.  I love one on one time with my boys, so I can find out what's going on in those brains of theirs.  There was also 1 lunch date with my brother and sister, which stretched to three hours.  Apparently, we had a lot to talk about!

1 "Happy Light" finally set up on my desk.  I bought it in December, but didn't take it out of the box.  And now I keep forgetting to turn it on.  Sigh. Eventually I'll let you know if it works.

8 swim meets attended.  The season is almost over, and I'm sad, sad, sad. We still have districts and hopefully a trip to state (keep your fingers crossed).  I've been watching C and T swim for seven years, so I'm really going to miss the pool.  It's the only time I'm warm all winter.

19 workouts done.  I'm trying to get back on track with the 21 Day Fix, but I get bored easily.  Has anyone tried Hammer and Chisel?

1 trip to Vegas with my husband.  Mostly for work, but we managed to have a little fun too. Although, 2 nights we were in bed by 9pm.  C was so disappointed in us.

30 rainy days.  I'm probably exaggerating, but it sure felt like it.  If only I would remember to turn on my Happy Light!  It snowed very briefly one day, and there was a little sunshine.  I think.

Many scholarship apps proofread for T.  Honestly, filling them out is like a full time job for him.  But he's a much better writer than me, so I enjoy reading what he comes up with.

1 visit to the orthodontist to start my Invisalign treatment.  Even though it's a long process, I'm looking forward to one day having straight teeth again.

2 books read.  A goal is to spend more time reading this year, so I'm pretty happy that I finished two.  I get excited when a new Elizabeth George novel comes out, but this one was a little disappointing.  I really enjoyed Thresholds, and I'll be reviewing it next month.

Tomorrow I'm headed south to visit my uncle and grandpa Ed, so I'll finish the month spending time with 2 of my favorite people.

Have a great weekend!

  1. This is so fun! So proud of your spending freeze on January I have the same but I did buy one coat because it was 75% off so I'm justifying it, LOL. I hope your weekend is absolutely wonderful

  5. Congrats on the Invisalign! That's so awesome. And the 19 workouts. Wow.
As for lunch dates, that's my favorite things with all three members of my family, one on one, of course.

  9. Busy month! I don't know if I could live out there in the Pacific NW w/out sunshine. You are a trooper for that in my book.

  11. So much fun stuff here, Lana. I love the shadow picture! I hope T and his team are having a good swim season and win state. Withdrawal from the chlorine of a pool is tough, although I am still getting a little by attending the occasional college meet. Hope your weekend was fun!

yay Vegas, hope you scoped everything out for our trip :) Honestly, I'm going to be fighting so hard to go to bed at like 9 because it'll really be midnight here and I'm used to shutting it down early due to the kiddos!

  13. I think 19 workouts is terrific. I bought the stuff $$ to try 21 Day Fix but I can almost bet I won't do all of the prep work on Sundays and all of the careful monitoring and measuring. I like Weight Watchers but they changed their program and it doesn't seem as user friendly. Looking froward to your review of Thresholds. Is your son likely to attend school near home?

    1. I'm only doing the 21 Day Fix workouts, and following the old weight watchers food plan. It works better for me. I wish he was going to school near home (University of Washington is right down the street), but it's looking more like he'll be about five hours away :(.
