What's Up Friday

Happy Friday!  It's been a while since I shared the happenings around here, and there's a lot going on, so I thought I'd do a modified "What's Up" post today.

What we've been up to -

Vacations!  In June it was Hawaii, and last week we took our annual beach trip to Manzanita, Oregon.  This year we coordinated with my family reunion, so all the cousins, aunts, uncles and Grandpa Ed joined us at our favorite place.  We spent the days walking the beach, eating too much, and relaxing as a family. There were dance parties, kayaking, golf, and bonfires. So much fun.

What I'm loving -

Yoga with my husband.  And yep, it was his idea.  It's been years since I've done yoga, but it's feeling really good on these aging bones.  I have absolutely no balance, and it's hard not to laugh through the entire class, but one of these days I'll get it.  Maybe.

What I'm wearing -

See picture above.  Shorts, tshirts and comfy stuff.  But I promise to get dressed next Wednesday for Summer Style in some sort of outfit that isn't made entirely of cotton and spandex.

What I'm watching/reading -

I'm so happy that my very favorite show, Flipping Out, is back!  Two years ago I was fortunate enough to meet Jenni Pulos at a local book signing event, and she was even funnier and nicer in person.  I seriously want to move to LA and work for Jeff Lewis Design.

With all the beach time, I've been doing lots of reading.  I'm about halfway through this book, and I recommend it to any mom out there who is facing the empty nest.  I'll do a full review when I'm done, because it's so good.

Which leads me to... what I'm dreading -

It's less than three weeks until this guy leaves for college.  I can't even talk about it, so we'll leave it at that.

What I'm reminiscing about -

Being in Manzanita really had me missing my dad and Uncle Rick.  My father was a surfer in his younger days, and the beach was his favorite place.  Uncle Rick organized all the family reunions.  Not having both of them there was sad, but being surrounded by family was key. There were lots of stories and tears and hugs.

What I'm working on -

Exciting stuff coming to the blog this fall!  I'll have a new name, a new design, and a new attitude.  Stay tuned....

What I'm excited about -

I got brave and signed up for a Seattle style workshop.  I'm a little nervous that I'll be the oldest one there!  The panel consists of top bloggers in the Seattle fashion niche, and other people in the industry.  Hopefully I'll learn a lot and make some good contacts.

What I'm doing this weekend -

Brunch with friends, yard work, and spending as much time as possible with my boys.  I think there's a homemade pizza party in there somewhere too.  Oh, and puppy training, because...

What else is new -

I'm happy to introduce the newest member of our family - Bogart!  He's ten weeks old, so adorable, and the biggest pain in the butt.  Bogart is a rescue puppy, and after a long journey to the local animal shelter, he ended up in our home.  I forgot how much work a puppy is. Good thing he's so cute.  It took a few days, but Abby loves him and has now claimed him as her own.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  4. How far away will your son be when he leaves for college? Yoga sounds really good to me right now! I've been training for a marathon and I feel like I am always sore and stretching just sounds awesome... maybe I should take some yoga! Lol! Oh, and I am on Tray 14 of 15 right now! My orthodontist is having me wear the trays every 10 days now instead of every 14 days, since I'm doing so well. On Aug. 11 I go in and have my impressions taken again and then I should have another 10-15 trays... but, at least I'll be on round TWO and almost done (except for that 6 month retainer period at the end). Just had to share :) :) Hope you're doing good with yours!

So darn cute. Sounds like you have the right attitude to your new life - blog revamp, puppy, and workshop.

  10. Such a rich post. I am envious of your Hawaiian vacay and your time at the Oregon beach. Is the water warm? I don't associate beach with Oregon so did a double take when I read that. This book looks like something I need to read, even though my nest has been empty for awhile, but with that and retirement, I have struggled to know who I am. Anxious for your blog face-life reveal. Fun.

  11. Aww.. Bogart!
I think your timing is impeccable. I know my kids aren't going to college, but even with the youngest starting preschool, I had to get a kitten to think of those days at home. A kitten! Next it will be a puppy.
You're brave to try Yoga! I haven't yet..

  13. Wow! This post is so full of stuff! Yay for your vacay! I loved following along on IG. That book looks really good! Can't wait to hear your full review. I'm not familiar with Flipping Out. What is it about? And that picture of Bogart and Abby. Too cute!!
