Friday Loves: Chocolate or Money?

Since T has been away at college, I've tried to send a care package once a month.  And with Valentine's Day coming up, I wanted to do something special.

However, he doesn't like chocolate very much.  What?!?  I know.  I'm not sure he's actually mine.

A few weeks back, I saw an easy idea that I knew would be right up his alley.  Honestly, give the kid some cash and a gift card for food and he's happy.

The first step was to remove some of the chocolates from the candy heart.  I felt it was my duty to sample them, since it would be a shame for good chocolate to go to waste and all.

Next, I folded up dollar bills in different denominations and taped them into the empty spaces.

Finally, I added a gift card to his favorite restaurant, boxed the heart up with some home made cookies, and sent it off.  The college kid gets money, and I got to each chocolate.  Win win.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Be sure to stop by The Blended Blog where I'm sharing some of my favorite blog posts from around the internet.  There's some good stuff!

  1. This is exactly how we gave the boys money for Christmas. They loved it and I saved all the photos for a post this next Christmas season. Such a fun idea, we had 2 tiers and chocolate was on top to fake them out and the money on the bottom, Definite win win. My one son told me care packages are the best parts of his month!!! Have a weet and loving weekend!!

    1. That's a great idea to do two levels - and then I wouldn't have had to eat the candy :)!

  5. I did this once for my son, yet I took ALL the chocolate out! Haha! I like this idea though, especially adding a gift card in there, too! Brilliant for college kids that are away!

  6. What a sweet thing to do! See, I could never think to do that! I want to slow down and start doing the little things like that, but I'm just a technical person. I don't think I have a creative bone in me lol!

    1. You are definitely creative - your storytelling is brilliant! And I'm so thankful that you're also technical - because I need that!

  7. Receiving care packages in college from my Mom was the best. My friends would gather around to see what I got; my roommate always stole whatever freshly baked sweets my Mother sent. She had a serious sweet tooth, and I was always so happy to share. This Valentine’s Day chocolate is perfect! You get your chocolate fix and a little cash for a rainy day :) and the gift card is an added bonus. Great idea Lana, I think T will love it
