My FASTer Way To Fat Loss Journey

Yep, that pretty much sums up how I feel about eating.  I like food and I want to have all the good things.  But... I also want to fit into my clothes.  I have a lot of favorites and don't want to start over again.

I'm sure we've all fought with our weight at one time or another.  And trust me, the older you get, the harder it is. The struggle is really, really real.  Up until five years ago, I was able to eat whatever I wanted, in moderation, as long as I was exercising regularly.  But then the midlife-metabolism-tank happened, and I came to the hard realization that I needed to make some big changes.

I tried a few diets here and there, but like I said, I want to eat good food.  And I don't want to be hungry.  Then a Seattle blogging friend told me she had been doing the Faster Way To Fat Loss and I was intrigued.

I'm sure you've heard of it, but here's my take:  every part of the program is the opposite of what you've been told all your dieting life, but the bottom line is, it works.  In a strong, healthy, satisfying way.

The basic concepts:

➽ Eat MORE, of the right kinds of foods.  The program teaches carb cycling and macro tracking to learn how to fuel your body correctly.  I'm never hungry and I was surprised at how many things fit into my macros.  I discovered quickly that I hadn't been eating enough.

➽ Exercise LESS, but do the right kind of exercise on the right days.  Most of the workouts are done in 30-40 minutes, 5 days a week.

➽ Intermittent Fasting.  Huh?

Intermittent fasting was the hardest part for me to wrap my brain around.  We've all been told not to skip breakfast, and to eat small meals throughout the day to keep our metabolism up.  The problem with this, and it makes total sense, is that we never give our bodies a chance to burn the fat we've already stored.  We're just digesting the last meal we ate.  There are lots of other benefits to IF, including hormone and insulin regulation.

I follow the 16/8 method.  Each day I eat during an 8 hour window, and then fast for 16 hours.  My usual "feeding" schedule is noon to 8pm, which took a little getting used to.  But now I can't imagine eating any other way, and I feel great.

Now that I've rambled on, let's get to the important stuff:  the results.  To date, I've lost 15 pounds and 10 inches overall.  I've gained muscle, gotten stronger, and my clothes fit again.  But I know that I have a bit more work to do.

So I'll keep on keeping on.  Progress, not perfection, right?  The best part is that this program works perfectly for REAL life.  I'm healthier and more fit than I've been in years, and I've learned how to incorporate clean eating in a way that's sustainable for the long haul.

If you'd like more information, head over to the Faster Way To Fat Loss website.  I think the next round starts on March 26th, and usually every month after that.  And of course, if you have any questions, ask away!

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!  Thomas is on his way home for spring break, and although it's not very springlike around here, it will be great to have him home for a week.  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. Oh my word, you are amazing, I have 10 pesky pounds to get off and exercise way too much, 90 minutes a day. I love this, I love that you did it and I love your inspiration, I have been pondering the fasting, right now I don't eat after 6 but eat my breakfast at 7 or 8, I'll up that to 10am and be good to go, lol!! I know it works as I know several who have done it, the 16/8 feels so doable! Way to go girlfriend!

  4. 15lbs!! That is awesome! That is my goal and I've got about 7 more to go. I am a foodie so I love food but don't mind healthy food I just have to make it fun. Cutting the sugar and anything white is what works really well for me. BUT..I still need to drink way more water and it is just such a hard thing for me to force myself to do!!

    So proud of you!

    1. Thank you Shelly. Drinking water is hard for me too - I like it, but just can't seem to remember to drink it during the day. I'm excited about the 15 pounds, but once I got there I wasn't where I thought I would be - so back to work it is!

  5. I have friends who swear by intermittent fasting. I think it can really work for some, and not for others. I haven't had to work on my weight much but I don't have the metabolism I used to have. And I think a lifetime of anxiety has kept me even thinner than I would be. Not the direction I'd ever choose to head in!
I think you look awesome and I love your insight.

    1. Thank you so much Tamara! Anxiety kept me thin in my younger days - but even that doesn't seem to work anymore :). Dang metabolism.

  6. I always want a cupcake. I’ve been doing my best to drop a few pounds for summer but the older I get the harder that is, lol. I constantly want to get off my clean eating train and every time I almost indulge I look at this really unflattering picture of myself I took while filming a workout video, so far it’s been working. I’m not even at the midlife-metabolism-tank yet. yay so much to look forward to. I tired intermittent fasting and it worked but it’s not something i want to keep up forever so I tend to not do things that I will one day have to stop. Keep up the great work Lana! you look beautiful to me.

    1. Why does it have to get so hard? I feel like I lose 5 pounds, and then I eat the cupcake and they come right back. Oh well. Thanks for the kind words Mary.

  7. Congrats Lana!!! I am taking a break from IF right now but I loved doing it when I worked, I felt good. I have heard about this and wanted to give it a try but it is so dang expensive. You look terrific and should feel so proud of what you accomplished - making big changes isn't easy and you did it - yay you!!!!

    1. Thank you Kellyann! I still have some work to do but I feel better. I agree, it is expensive, but I don't belong to a gym so I felt okay about it.

  8. I am going to have to look into this! I have been wanting to drop quite a few pounds for awhile now but it really is much tougher the older you get.

  9. Congratulations on your success!!! That’s awesome!! I just heard about this program recently, and now I see it everywhere. I can totally see that it would work. I’ve done a modified form of IF for quite some time now, and when I stop doing it, I tend to get into trouble. I also need to track my macros more carefully...

    1. Thanks Andrea. I think I'm to the age where I'll always have to watch what I eat, which is a bummer, but it is what it is.

  12. Lana, 15 pounds is amazing. That's really great. So did you just do the one initial round and then keep repeating it, or did you keep signing up? I just kept doing the same exercises for about 7-8 months and have recently been changing it up with other workouts. Do you constantly log your food in Fitness Pal or have you just kinda figured it out? Once I got "off the logging" food and returned to normal life, most of the weight I lost came right back😩I've done the IF routine for years and years, so that part wasn't new for me. Great job girl!

    1. I just did the initial round, and I've been continuing on my own. I've been doing the same exercises but I'm ready to change it up. I'm not very good about logging my food, but I kind of eat the same things over and over anyway!
