TBB Asks - Giving Thanks

Happy Monday!  I'm really excited for this month's TBB Asks, since it's all about giving thanks.  It seems like each year, Thanksgiving in the US gets less and less attention.  I love Christmas, but not yet.  At the store on Saturday, there was a greeter dressed like Santa.  On November 3rd.  Just...no.   For now, let's focus on giving thanks!

1/ Yep, although in the past I haven't been very consistent.  A few months ago I bought the 5 Minute Journal, and I've remembered to use it every day.

2/ Always.  My husband is the only one in the family that can cook.  Or...maybe everyone else pretends they can't cook.  Hmmm...

3/ Mashed potatoes.  I rarely eat them anymore, so I always get my fill on Thanksgiving.  Pretty sure that's my plate up there - mashed potatoes, gravy and carrots.

4/ Sunshine.  After a week of rain and wind, the sun came out on Sunday and it immediately lifted my spirits.

5/ Most definitely yes!  I rarely make one anymore though.  The pies at Costco are delicious and cost less than all the ingredients.

6/ No.  My husband has most of his recipes in his head.  And I've got my grandma's old handwritten favorites that I cherish.

7/ Neither.  We do a turkey in the smoker every year - it's SO good!

8/ Of course!  Although, with the size of my family, there isn't a whole lot left.

9/ Can I say the washer and dryer?  My mother in law used to tell me stories about hand washing diapers, and I can't even imagine. I'm so grateful for my laundry room.

10/ Home cooked if my hubby makes them.  Otherwise, I'd rather eat out.

Be sure to hop over to The Blended Blog and link up your thankful posts.  Let's show Thanksgiving some love!

  2. Your hubby sounds like a keeper(lol), and I love the family pic! I'm grateful that my son is happy and doing well with his life and his family, however, he never wants anyone to know who he is on my blog, and always has to remain nameless.(lol) M fave food has to be homemade cranberry sauce. I'd sure like to try a deep fried turkey. Got room for one more over at your place?(lol) Hugs...RO

    1. There's always room for you! My mom makes a delicious homemade cranberry sauce - it takes her two days!

  3. Seriously I think this is my favorite holiday because 1-there's food involved. 2-no gifts to worry about and 3-we have SO much to be thankful for.
I'm thinking I need to tone down my cooking...maybe Rob will take over then....

  4. haha, it's the same here. We have hosted but only Cassidy can cook so it's like I'm nominating him. I have to wait for him to offer! And then I'm like, "Good idea, dude!"
Mashed potatoes are my favorite too. I rarely eat them so they're always special to me. We didn't have them at our traditional Thanksgiving when we were kids. I have no idea why but I was suffering!

    1. Ha - love that! George knows that if he wants good food, he's going to have to cook it himself!

  7. That journal sounds perfect. I can do five minutes. Smoked turkey sounds like the best turkey to me. Wish I was closer because I would invite myself over...I know George is a fabulous cook! Have a great week!

  8. High five on sunshine. I really can't bare to be cold. But when I saw Andrea's answer for question #4, snowflakes, I almost wanted to change my answer. I love snow, too!

  9. I'm with you on holding off on Christmas until after Thanksgiving. And sometimes I make my pies, but those Costco pies are such a good deal. Especially pecan pie - you can't buy the nuts for the price of their pie. Have a wonderful week!

  10. Yes, NO Santa on Nov. 3rd. I mean really! And, I agree, washer and dryer. I can't even imagine life without them and indoor plumbing. My husband is a wonderful man but cooking, well, not so much. Have a great one!

  11. I love the idea of a 5 minute journal. It's hard to tear away from the electronics and get writing but it's so good for us! Love that your hubby cooks and I'm slightly jealous. :) Hope you have a great week Lana!

  12. I am 100% with you on the sun and the washer/dryer! I hate the rush of the seasons and really for me in dark, dreary, rainy November the only high spot is the anticipation of Thanksgiving so I want it to have all the attention! Your table looks delicious and festive.

  13. Yes, I love mashed potatoes! Yum!! Carbs galore! Haha, sometimes I think that maybe I shouldn't have told my husband I can cook, because he is a good cook, too... yet, he gets home later so it's easier for me to cook. ;) I love the family photo. I had a smoked turkey once and would love to have it again. My family always bakes it.

  15. A smoked turkey?!? I've never had one but I'd love to try that! I love the prepping and cooking in the kitchen when I have time, but sometimes I do wish someone else would just do it for me :) Also, I love the 5 minute journal idea. Does it have prompts?

    1. It has a quote for each day, but the prompts are the same for each day. I really like it though!
