No Repeat January Week Four
Week four of no repeat January is behind me. And while I did wear something different from my closet every day, I forgot to take outfit pictures. Which is too bad, because I had some cute stuff going on in Vegas. And I had a photographer with me the entire time (aka my husband). I'll do better next week as I head into no repeat February.
One of my favorite bloggers, Suzanne, recently wrote about style goals and creating a style statement, which really got me thinking about my closet. In the past, I've had a hard time defining my style. Most of what I wear is dictated by the place I live (very casual), the weather (cold and rainy a lot of the time), and the fact that I work from home.
As I continue my plan to wear everything in my closet, and thrift the clothes that don't work for me, things are starting to come into focus a little bit. Suzanne created a worksheet to help choose a style statement, and I ended up with these five words that describe my personal values and core beliefs: persistent, kind, courageous, adventurous and creative.
Now I just need to work those words into my wardrobe. My style already reflects a casual, active lifestyle. However, I'm finding myself attracted to the classic pieces in my closet, and I think I'm looking for more sophistication. I'd also like to add some creativity to my outfits, which is a character attribute I find attractive in others. That one won't be easy since my existing style is pretty basic. And I'm on a shopping ban.
Suzanne wrote: "Style isn't about wanting to be someone else, or following rules, it is about knowing yourself, believing in yourself and working with what you have to create a visual representation of your soul on the outside for all the world to see".
My personal style is a work in progress, but the journey sure is fun!

Both of these sweaters are so cute styled with the tall boots! You are doing great with the shopping ban and no repeat! I think it would be hard to define my style. I'm going to have to check out Suzanne's post and style worksheet. What a great idea!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the shout-out. I'm happy that this work sheet is helping a few people get some direction to better define what they want their clothing to communicate.
I can't wait to see you get creative...I think you're well on your way just by opening yourself up to the idea.
bisous

DeleteWell, I think your style is darling!!! I am on a Spending freeze too for January and then a limited budget as I know you get it.....college!!! I've been pulling stuff outta my closet for pics!! Love that tunic!!
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely lady! Looming college tuition is definitely putting a crimp in my budget :)!
DeleteI love deep purple. And I love lace trimmed shirts! I swear I could stock a whole closet with those two things.
ReplyDeleteYou would look great in purple with your coloring!
DeleteLoving your wednesday posts lady. And so going to do that worksheet when I get some time. Style statement, yes! I think I need that, so smart.

Thank you Rebecca - you too!
DeleteThanks for telling us about this style worksheet! My wardrobe is in need of a complete overhaul. My thyroid condition is making my body all different so many of my clothes don't fit the way they used to. What do you do working from home again and do you "dress up" for work? :)
ReplyDeleteWe own a door/bath/cabinet hardware company, and I do all the accounting, payroll, ordering, etc. I used to wear yoga stuff all day, but really missed getting dressed in "real" clothes. So now I get dressed every day!
DeleteThank you for sharing the link to Suzanne's blog. Her look is so creative and fun. Will be completing the worksheet myself this weekend. I would love to make my functional look a little more sophisticated too.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great wardrobe Leslie, and I love how you put things together. Suzanne's blog is really fun!
DeleteI love your outfits!
ReplyDeleteI need to start donating stuff that doesn't work for me too.
That's the best part about wearing everything - I'm figuring out what doesn't work.
DeleteI have a hard time defining my style, too. I really love this purple top! I was envious of all of your Las Vegas photos on IG! Looks like you had fun!

Thanks Carrie. We had a great time!
DeleteI love the idea of finding 5 words to describe yourself and then add clothing pieces that speak to that. It's a great way to start to find a style. I have a closet full of hodge podge clothes, so I need to do this!
ReplyDeleteMy closet is so hodge podge! I'm trying to narrow it down!
Deletewhat a great philosophy around style! I love that you're not repeating anything... one day I'll try that... could be scary lol
ReplyDeleteConfessions of a Frumpy Mommy
Haha - I'm going to be getting to some scary stuff soon!
DeleteLove the idea of consciously creating a style that is value based. I have been doing a lot of downsizing lately and I am going to check out this worksheet!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea. Definitely check out Suzanne's blog.
DeleteI can't wait to hear what you figure out on your style. I think that will be a fun and eye-opening experience. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI think it will help me clean out my closet a bit more too!
DeleteVery cute looks - love your purple sweater! I enjoyed finding out what your style statement is. :) Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday, Lana!
