Well, it's the first day of fall, and I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it is my favorite season. But on the other, I know that means the rain is coming - and I seem to be tolerating that less in my old age!
In any case, today I'm linking up with The miss Elaine-ous life and Tamara (Like) Camera (have you read her blog? - if you haven't, you should) for Old School Blogging - Fall Into Fall. And I'm going really old school with some of the pictures - circa 2002-2003.
1. What Fall traditions do you have?
When the boys were younger we spent all day long at the pumpkin patch - looking for the perfect pumpkin, going on a hay ride, and wandering through the corn maze. We even tried the haunted corn maze one year - that didn't go over too well. The next day we carve our pumpkins while my hubby plays his "Halloween Mix" on the ipod - you'd be surprised how many monster songs there are. Fall also means cross country races and dinner at Grandma's house for Thanksgiving (well, before she moved to Arizona).
2. What is your favorite fall recipe?
Cream of Watercress soup. My husband makes it for me every year while we're carving pumpkins and listening to monster music. I don't know the recipe though - I'll have to see if I can get it out of him for a future post.
3. What is a favorite Fall photo (or photos) you've taken?
When T was five he planted a pumpkin seed in the backyard. We didn't think anything would come of it, but he grew the most beautiful pumpkin! I love the look on his face - he was so proud of himself.
I took this last year at a Cross Country meet - it was a classic Northwest fall day.
4. Football - Love it or hate it? (maybe it steals your hubby away)?
I love watching football - my hubby, not so much. I'm usually the one snuggled up with the boys on the couch watching the game.
5. What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?
Hmm...is it terrible that nothing stands out? I love my mom, but she wasn't very crafty. We usually went to Kmart and chose a cheap costume. I do remember being Raggedy Ann one year.
6. Pumpkins or Ghosts or both? Love pumpkins. Ghosts are okay.
7. What's your favorite fall fashion item (boots? scarves? sweaters)?
Most definitely scarves. I have a bit of a problem - I will not tell you how many scarves I own.
8. Is "leaf pile jumping" your thing or not?
I would love to jump in a pile of leaves. They're hard to come by around here though - we mostly have evergreen trees which don't drop their needles. That would be a bit painful.
9. Is "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" a must-watch at your house?
Yes, and that is never going to change.
10. What are you going to be for Halloween this year (or your kids)?
We're kind of past the costume stage. We draw the line on trick or treating once they can shave :). This was my favorite costume of theirs from many years ago. Because, well, it's Dr. Seuss.
Happy Fall - rain and all!
This was fun to read! The Great Pumpkin is a must at our house too! Love the Dr Seuss costumes!

It wouldn't be Halloween without The Great Pumpkin! Thanks Jill!
DeleteOk where are YOU in these memories? You broke your moms KMart tradition with those ADORABLE home made Seusse costumes! I always wanted to go as the Hocus Pocus Sanderson sisters with my two best friends but...maybe someday. That would be a fun party! You know you would make a perfect Sarah Jessica Parker witch from it! Happy Tuesday to you Lana!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn!
DeleteEnjoyed reading your answers, Lana! I am a scarf fanatic...my last count was 108...but that convicted me so I donated a few. Still love them a ton!
ReplyDeleteYay, another scarf fanatic! I just cleaned out my closet this weekend, but I couldn't part with any of my scarves!
DeleteWe would KILL for rain! Fall is my absolutely favorite season and i am a little bereft that we'll be away for two and a half weeks of it.
ReplyDeleteIf I could send you some rain I'd do it in a heartbeat!
DeleteLove this! I LOVE fall and HALLOWEEN. We'll never outgrow the dressing-up phase. Too much drama in our blood. My favourite all-time costume? Mom made me the cutest Bo-Peep costume. Complete with bloomers and a huge bow on a shepherd's crook! Love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI want to see that picture on your blog!
DeleteI like fall and Halloween, but I am a summer girl. I love having my daughter home and we all love hot weather. Winters in Ohio are not much fun! Happy fall my friend! Susan
ReplyDeleteI love summer too - but there's just something about a crisp, sunny fall day. I have never been to Ohio in the winter, but I can imagine!
DeleteThat soup sounds yummy. I'd love to try that!
ReplyDeleteI need to get him to write that recipe down - and then I'll share!
Deleteoh my gosh, love the Dr. Seuss themed costumes! I love scarves too, but I think tall boots are a very close second!
ReplyDeleteTall boots are definitely fun! I think these are my favorite costumes too!
DeleteI just love that he grew his own pumpkin, how cool is that? And please, tell me how many scarves you have. I really want to know! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in with Old School Blogging!
Well....I haven't counted lately, but it's around 70? Is that terrible? I really need to donate some....
DeleteWe have great memories of visiting the pumpkin patch with our kids too. Ours would take all day long and was like an amusement park with rides and a restaurant and food all kinds of fun things to do. When the kids got older, we'd do a day at the pumpkin patch and a night at a local haunted house. So much fun.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun. Sounds like our days were similar to yours - minus the haunted house. We tried it a few times, but my boys were never big fans!
DeleteThank you for that wonderful shout-out!
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that the pumpkin seed grew so beautifully. It really did!
And I love the idea of a soup you have every year. And the monster music.
Happy fall! It's official!
Yep, it's official. We were amazed at how beautiful that pumpkin turned out!
DeleteI love fall it's always been my favorite. I love my cheesy potatoe soup or a good pot of chili. I can send you tons and tons of leaves to jump into! My hubby is already dreading that chore!
ReplyDeleteYes please on the leaves! Yum - cheesy potato soup sounds SO good!
DeleteAwwww the age-old traditions are always the best and we must always strive to keep em alive for generations to come!!

So true Rebecca!
DeleteHi Lana, Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving me a comment. I love scarves too. Those pumpkin carvings look nice. xo
ReplyDeleteI love scarves but I feel like such a poser in them!! Any scarf sporting tips for me?
ReplyDeleteTwo words - infinity scarves. So easy to put on and they look great on everybody - not bulky either!
DeleteWe love to do apple and pumpkin picking too, but as my kids have gotten older and more involved in weekend activities/sports, it's so hard to find any time to fit it in! We love apple cider donuts too!
ReplyDeleteApple cider donuts sound SO good! It's gotten very hard to find a day to get to the pumpkin patch here too.
Deleteomg can't wait to go to the pumpkin patch!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see pictures!
DeleteGrowing his own pumpkin? How awesome is that!? That soup sounds interesting. Do share the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI need to ask him to write it down for me!
