Do's And Dont's - Spring Trends

Happy Spring!

What a fitting day for our Style Me Bloggers link up, since we're talking about spring do's and dont's.  But before I get to my picks for spring fashion, I'd like to announce:  MY SHOPPING BAN IS OVER.  I can't take it anymore.  The colors are so fresh, the clothes are too pretty, and I really need some new spring style in my life.  I made it almost four months, which is a record for me, so I'm calling it good.

Here are the top five spring trends that I hope to add to my wardrobe:
  • Yellow.  One of my favorite colors.  How can you not feel spring-y and happy wearing yellow?  I'd really like to find a yellow coat, but a dress would be fun too.
  • Shirtdress.  While I like this denim one, I'm searching for something in poplin. It would be really cute with a belt and white converse.
  • Lace.  I love the feminine look of lace, and a white lace shirt paired with boyfriend jeans and flats is a great balance of tough and girly.
  • Gingham.  I like the bigger gingham print in this outfit.  And how pretty would it be with a yellow jacket?  The bag is lovely too.

  • Slip on sneakers.  So comfortable and they would look great with any of my other picks.  Plus, there are so many choices for spring!  I'd also love to find a pair of wedge sandals, but with a lower heel.  Not easy.

I was having so much fun deciding what to look for on my shopping spree that I almost forgot about the dont's.  But here's my position on that:

There aren't any dont's.

I believe that fashion is a personal thing.  It's an expression of who you are, and you should wear what makes you feel happy and beautiful.  No matter what anyone else says or thinks.

The lovely Suzanne Carillo recently wrote a great post about this very subject called Can You Wear Cute Dresses Over 40?  Anyone who has ever questioned themself while getting dressed in the morning should read it.  Heck, even if you're the most self confident person in the world, you should check it out.  It's that good.

Having said that, there are a few spring trends that I personally won't be wearing.  Black mesh, overalls, and most anything 70's inspired (no patchwork or culottes for me).  But if that's your thing, then go for it, and know that you'll look beautiful doing it.

Be sure to check out the other Style Me Bloggers, and link up with us below!

    1. I wore overalls in the 90's when I was pregnant. They didn't look good on me then, so I'm pretty sure they wouldn't look any better now!

    I love your "don't" list ; P

I also really like the choices you've made on your Spring picks.

And a HUGE congrats goes out to you for a whole 4 months of no shopping! You made it 3 months and 1 week longer than I did! LOL

Now if you only lived closer we could go shopping!

    1. I would love to shop with you - I think you would choose some great things for me that I would never think of trying myself. Maybe someday!

  5. Loved the S. Carillo link. Best line for me: "To be clear, I’m wearing the dress. I’m not asking you to wear it." And that sums up your post too. Love that. It's so true. And that yellow coat? Smashing.

  8. I am glad to hear you are treating yourself, I am hoping to do that in a couple of weeks once my income tax is put into my account... I am with you about no 70's inspired clothing, I grew up in that era and personally never want to wear it again... although I say to each his own and a lot of it is at least better material than what I grew up with... lol

I love lace anything, I think it is romantic and pretty... have a great weekend Lana xox

    1. You're right - the materials are probably better, but I didn't love the 70's style. Hope you have a great weekend too!

    1. Black mesh - why would that be a spring trend? But it was all over the runways. Definitely not for me!

  12. I love yellow, but sadly, when I wear it I look like I am dying :(
Take a peek at Land's End for your wedge sandals - I bought a pair with a medium high heel, and they are really comfortable. I think they have some with lower heels as well.
