This Place I Call Home: Show Us Your City

Today I'm linking up with the Style Me Bloggers to share the places we call home.  Some are writing about their hometowns while others are more comfortable sharing their regions or states.

I live in Marysville, Washington, about thirty miles north of Seattle. Unfortunately, my little town became infamous last year when a terrible tragedy occurred at one of our high schools. Even though it has been seven months since that day, our community is still struggling to heal.

But we will recover, because Marysville is a wonderful town full of great people. Originally a small farming community, known for growing delicious strawberries, our population has grown to over 60,000.  There are still a few strawberry fields on the outskirts, and every year in June we have a Strawberry Festival with parades, games, and lots of strawberry shortcake.

It's a beautiful place, nestled between the Cascade mountains and Puget Sound.

This is the view from my neighborhood, which looks over the town, sound, and Olympic Mountains.

We have a huge, glorious outlet mall, where I do most of my shopping.  If only there was a Nordstrom.

There are lots of parks and waterfront areas.

But the best part about living here is all the things to do nearby.  In an hour we can be skiing or hiking in the mountains, in twenty minutes we can be playing on Puget Sound, and in thirty minutes we can be in Seattle.  The weather is fairly mild year round, and it honestly doesn't rain as much as you might think (shhh...that's a secret).

I moved to Western Washington when I was twelve, and there's been no better place to raise our boys.  If you ever find yourself north of Seattle, give me a call and I'll show you around.

Be sure to check out the other Style Me Bloggers today to read about the places they call home, and link up with us below.  Come back in two weeks to see how we "shared" our home during our blogger exchange!

  1. What a beautiful view there on the mountains and the lake! And who knew, so close to Seattle! And compared to our village of 800 inhabitants, that's huge with 60 000:) It seems like a lovely town:)

  8. I had to link my post about getting lost in the parking lot in the outlet mall you mentioned. You'll get a laugh out of it. I travel through Marysville often as I do several speaking circuits in Washington. This is the ONLY place to live - right???

  14. What gorgeous views you have. One of my road-trip hopes is to drive to the Pacific Northwest, and also catch a Mariners game while I'm there. And salmon ... I'd definitely have to have a salmon dinner while I'm around.

  16. Lana... I remember the summer I went to Oregon which is a beautiful state... people told me how much it rained there... I was there for 23 days... it only rained once. I also was able to travel to Washington for a day when I was there... the West Coast is SO pretty. Honestly if I ever moved from Nova Scotia...it would be to British Columbia the I would visit people on the West coast ♡ xox

  17. Lana, I have family that lives in Washington. My dad was just there visiting his family. I have to say that the running joke between him and my aunt is the rain. Glad to hear it doesn't rain as much as we think ;)
