Thankful For New Friends In Texas

I've never been one who makes friends easily.  I'm not really sure why - I like people, and I'm most certainly not quiet and shy.  I think it's deep seated insecurities that hold me back. And as I've gotten older, it has become even more difficult.

Which is why I was so happy when I began blogging and found myself forming connections with other bloggers.  It has been the very best part for me, and I've "met" some great ladies.

Like Deena and Carrie and the rest of the Style Me bloggers.

So when my sweet husband and Deena planned a weekend in San Antonio for my birthday, I was beyond excited.  And, I'll admit, a little apprehensive.  What if they didn't like me "in real life"?  So silly, I know.  It's those dang insecurities again. Deena and I actually met last summer for coffee when she was visiting Seattle with her family, but she only got a small dose of me then.

No need to worry.

From the very first evening there was an ease among the six of us, and by Sunday I felt like we'd known each other forever.  It doesn't look like we had any fun, does it?

I think we were going for Charlie's Angels here, but the Canadian forgot her gun in this pic!
Dale and Dan are in the background looking for Pecan trees.
San Antonio was a wonderful place to spend a weekend.  We visited the Alamo, and Carrie shared with us what it meant to be a Texan (let's just say - don't mess with them!)

We spent lots of time on the Riverwalk, and went for a historical boat cruise.

There was eating and drinking, and of course, shopping!

You can't leave Texas without some barbeque!
Hmm...do I spy the Portofino shirt?
The guys got along great, and had plenty of time to get to know each other while patiently waiting for their wives.

I can't begin to express how thankful I am that I pushed aside my insecurities and opened myself up to meeting these great people.  They are kind, funny and smart.  It's amazing to think that just a year ago we didn't know a thing about each other, and now I feel like we'll be friends forever.

And that's the greatest blessing of all.

  1. "Now really, dear, why do you blog?" If I've heard it once, I've heard it dozens of times. From both family and friends. THIS is why I do. Love it. You look as if you are having a hoot. I am so glad. And my grin got even wider when I spotted my fellow Canadian without her gun.
