Motivational Monday LI

Even though most days I want to be a Tigger - exuberant and positive - for the last few weeks I've felt like an Eeyore.

Between my uncle's funeral, some major issues with my grandmother, and too much to do with not enough hours to do them, I've been pessimistic and gloomy.

BUT - there's always a but, isn't there?  Like Eeyore, I was caught up in the negative.  This is life.  It's messy and unpredictable, often sad and exhausting.

But it's also beautiful and wonderful and exciting.  My blessings far outweigh my troubles. For every bad thing that has happened in the last year, there have been countless lovely moments.

Only I can decide whether to be a Tigger or an Eeyore.  Today I choose Tigger.

I'm linking up with Shaunacey today for Monday Moments of Gratitude.  I imagine Tigger reminds himself daily of all he has to be grateful for.  That's what gives him so much bounce! This week I'm grateful for:

--Spending time with my extended family.  We came together from all around the country to celebrate the well lived life of my uncle.  We shared stories, laughed, cried, and leaned on each other.  It's exactly what he would have wanted.  All but two cousins were there, so we gathered for a rare group shot.

And then there's Grandpa Ed.  Almost 98 and still chugging along.

--The determination and passion of my younger son.  He's an all around good athlete, although he's never been the fastest or the best.  For years he's put in the hard work, and we recently found out that he's the first athlete at his high school to earn twelve varsity letters. On Friday night we watched his very last sporting event, and I cried some happy tears, grateful for the lessons he's taught me about persistence and attitude.

Be sure to head to The Blended Blog today where we're starting our Summer series with Sarah. Come back Wednesday to link up with Style Perspectives - this week we're sharing a nautical look.

And starting in June, we hope you'll link up for "What's In My....".  We'd love to see what's in your handbag, junk drawer, make up bag and kitchen!

  3. Loved reading this! We need to be a Tigger when things are getting us down. There are so many things we take for granted, we just need to take a breath to realize what they are.

  4. I get teary-eyed just thinking about what it will be like to experience the last of things instead of all the firsts.

  6. Yes to persistence and attitude! It's a holiday up here in Canada and I am determined to make it a Tigger of a day. Thanks for the nudge, Lana. It's gloomy out but that doesn't mean I need to stay inside, does it? Nope. Off to walk Poppy on the sea wall. Have a splendid day yourself.

  7. I've always considered you to be more of a Tigger than an Eeyore, Lana. Your optimism and strength through all of what life has thrown at you this past year has astounded me. It's ok to be sad and down about some things sometimes, but you seem to know how to "bounce" back to cheerfulness well. I hope you have lots to smile about though in the coming weeks. The first to earn 12 varsity letters is a HUGE accomplishment! Way to Go T!
Now, I'm going to "bounce" off to The Blended Blog . . . :)

  13. sometimes it just feels easier to be Eeyore doesn't it? I think you're right though, I imagine Tigger has so much bounce because he's able to see the joy in the every day and that's what it's all about. Some beautiful things for you to be grateful for this week! I'm still so sorry about your uncle but am happy you got to see your family, you all look so happy to be with each other xo

    1. Eeyore here, lately. And that's ok. Life can do that to you. And then life can turn around and be all Tigger-ish.

  14. I've felt like Eeyore a lot lately. I think things will perk up, and spending time with family is always what the doctor ordered.
Look at Grandpa Ed! He looks so strong!

  15. I have been overwhelmed lately - and discouraged - it is so easy to become gloomy. I will pray you feel more encouraged - and what a blessing we have in this TBB group.

  16. I think we all go through seasons of happy and sad. Sometimes my season last only a few minutes which can look a lot like manic depression but then the sun comes back out again. I think the important thing is that we know that with the bad there is good.
