My New Happy: I'm Going To Paris

I'm Going To Paris

Oh, that husband of mine.

He knew I'd be sad that our youngest was off to college.  He knew how much I've always wanted to go to Paris.

So he's taking me to Paris.

I'm excited and overwhelmed and so, so lucky... and a little scared.  Because we leave in two weeks.

By nature, I'm a planner.  And two weeks doesn't seem like enough time to plan a trip to the most exciting city in the world.  I almost told him no, that we should wait until spring.

And then I came to my senses, got over myself, and let it sink in....I'm going to Paris!  I don't even care what we do, as long as there are croissants, and cheese, and wine.

Of course there's so much more, so any suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated. What to see, where to go, what to wear - I need help!

  3. Wow! You have a nice life! College for your kids, traveling to PARIS, costly adventures plentiful, clothes galore, blogging world of kudos, friends with tea gardens...it's astounding you have worries. My kids point out that any worry for a person such as yourself would be a "First World Problem." -Weird Al.

  6. Don't miss Le Louvre, although my personal preference is the Musee d'Orsay, less crowded and better architecture.

I highly recommend getting a picnic lunch and sitting in the Jardin de Luxembourg while enjoying people passing by. Everyone does it. You can pick up great sandwiches made with fresh baquettes, cheese and ham at every little boulangerie for very cheap and of course wine is also very cheap. Eating in restaurants an 18% surcharge is already added to your bill, so do not tip again! It is already included.

It is worth a trip to Versailles, again, try to take a picnic lunch for yourself. The grounds are amazing with loads of spots to sit and enjoy the afternoon. It is only a quick train ride away from the city. Be sure to take the tour or headsets.

Another thing I would recommend is a trip down the Seine at dusk. There are loads of riverboat tours. This is an easy and comfortable way to see the city and the Eiffel Tower when the lights come on at night.

Don't feel you need to eat in expensive restaurants to eat well. 99% of all food is better in France, no matter where you go.

Be sure to eat a crepe in one of the crepe stands. The are cheap and delicious.

There is of course amazing shopping in Paris in smaller boutiques. To appeal to your American sense of large department stores I suggest you visit Gallery Lafayette. I think you may even be there in time to catch their sales which only occur two or three times a year. Their unique diverse selection will amaze you. Don't miss out on the lingerie floor. Yes, an entire floor devoted to high end lingerie!

There are so many places to explore in Paris. Do a bit of research so you won't feel overwhelmed when you get there. A travel book, downloadable walking tour guide for your phone or other guided device is worth it.

Have an amazing time and take loads of photos! I just know you're going to LOVE it!

    bisous

  7. OH HOW EXCITING! My husband proposed to me in Paris! I did several blog posts on Paris, I can send them all to you if you want. There is so much to do there and it is all walkable or you can take the subway (which isn't scary at all!). It is such a Romantic city. I highly suggest taking a dinner boat cruise along the Seine River your first night you arrive... it is REALLY relaxing and you see all the sites! We also did a bus tour to Monet's Garden and it included a tour of the Palace of Versailles. YOU MUST see Versailles, the gardens alone are SO neat. I also highly recommend Monet's Garden! And, of course there is the Eiffel Tower! We had dinner inside and got an easy ride up to the top. The Louvre is HUGGE, but so worth it.. just so, so much to do!!! How long will you be there? Oh and... Invisalign is a b-tch on trips!!! I had it in when we went to Italy. Just make sure you bring an extra tray (the one before this tray or after) in case you lose or rip a tray. I had one tray I got a little rip in and thankfully it never ripped all the way!! Your husband is awesome!!!!!

    1. How romantic to be proposed to in Paris! Thank you so much for all the wonderful suggestions. We'll be there 8 days. So much to do in such a short time! Yes, travelling with Invisalign is such a pain. Especially with all the eating to do in Paris!

  12. A few tips:

If you want to eat in the restaurant in the Eitfel tower, make reservations NOW! Also go ahead and buy your tickets online for the Eitfel tower. You save sooo much time!

On one of your first full days there do the double decker bus tour. You listen to an audio tour in the language of your choice. You can hop on and off and get a good overview of the city.

Take the roof tour at Notre Dame. Beautiful views and you get to see the gargoyles up close! Sainte-Chapelle is not very far away and has gorgeous stained glass windows!

So many good museums. We only had time for the Louvre. It was free on Sundays when we went but the lines were long. A good break is to have lunch in the cafe.

Sacre Coeur is pretty to see at dusk and you can walk around and see le Moulin Rouge all lit up.

When you can't walk anymore, a tour on the Bateau Mouche is nice as is grabbing a bike share bike and biking around. We didn't go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe on this last trip but it's pretty cool!

We found a pastry shop on the left bank that had AMAZING napoleons! Obviously you gotta eat croissants and all the baguettes you can stand. Go to the local supermarket and try some new cheeses. Pack a wine screw so you can have a picnic in your hotel or in the jardin de Tuileries.

My husband is giving your husband props for this btw! Have a glass of red wine for us! Salut!
