My New Happy: January In Numbers

January In Numbers

January, where did you go?  It feels like I spent most of the month in my office, buried in tax prep. Ugh.  But I did manage to get out now and again, so I thought I'd share my January in numbers, and link up with the fabulous Deena at Shoes To Shiraz.

I just passed day 300 of my Invisalign treatment.  Although ten months have gone by pretty quickly, there are moments every day when I want to rip them out and be done.  I've already seen a huge difference though, so I'll press on.

Zero dollars spent on clothes.  None, nada, zilch.  For now I'm having fun going through my closet and remixing pieces.  I'd like to keep it up for a few more months, but pretty spring things may start calling my name.  Must stay out of stores.

We've had 5 days of snow, and 15 sunny days.  Which means not a whole lot of rain.  Super weird for January, but I'm loving sunrises and sunsets like these.

I worked out 25 days this month.  I'm very committed to a #bettermeby50, and exercising is a huge part of the equation.  I'm mixing yoga, cardio and strength training so I don't get bored.  Now if somebody could please take away the chocolate....

College boy was home for 23 days (8 in January) before heading back for second semester. I loved all the activity at home, with kids coming and going.  Saying goodbye was hard, but spring break will be here soon.

1 haircut and 1 color appointment.  I feel like a new woman.

4 lunch/coffee dates with friends.  I needed to get out of my office cave every once in a while, and my friends were kind enough to listen to me complain about taxes.

We saw 2 movies - Passengers and LaLaLand.  Enjoyed them both, because Chris Pratt and Ryan Gosling.  And singing and dancing and suspense and romance. Plus the popcorn was yummy.

And....I actually read 2 books too!  The first was The Year We Turned 40, and it was just so-so.  I wish they would have fleshed the characters out a bit more, but the concept was interesting.  I just finished All The Stars In The Heavens by Adriana Trigiani.  She's one of my favorite authors, although this book was different than her usual style. It was kind of historical fiction, with Clark Gable and Loretta Young the main stars of the story.  Definitely a good read!

(Speaking of reading, there's still time to join the Blended Blog's virtual book club.  We're just picking our first books, and we'd love to have you join us).

Happy weekend, friends!

  4. Mm.. popcorn. I have never really been into Ryan Gosling but La La Land convinced me of his.. talents. The Notebook helped too.
I am glad January is over. I can't imagine spending no money on clothes for a month but I NEED to do that. You're inspiring me.

    1. I've never felt like I was a big Ryan Gosling fan either - but then I think back on his movies, and I like them all!

  5. I still want to see LaLa Land! I read The Year I Turned Forty and enjoyed it, but I get what you mean about the characters. I just saw on Timehop that I had my Invisalign put on last year on Feb. 1!! So, I've been wearing them a year. Yikes!! I have 3 more trays and then I THINK (boo!!) my dentist thinks I still need more revision trays. So, I'll have impressions AGAIN (ugh, I hate that stuff in my mouth!) and then who knows how many more trays. But, I guess it has to be perfect.

I am sure you enjoyed the boys home and YES to spring break being soon!

    1. So cool that you're nearing the end with your Invisalign. I looked at mine the other day and thought, they look pretty good, maybe I should just be done. But I know I'll be even happier at the end!

  6. Uh...from looking at your pics, I'd like to report that you're already fab and don't need to do anything extra. I totally love movie musicals and can't wait to see LaLa Land. It's great to connect with friends so we can vent, right? I think it's very cool to take the things already in the closet and give them a remix. I'm reading James Rollins and Recipe Revival by Southern Living. It's about the Southern Classics we all know that have been re-invented. Hugs...

  7. I am in so desperate need of a color for my hair. There so much gray! We've had warm weather until today that is. Yesterday and the day before I was actually wearing shorts. Today we have the fire place going. Go figure!

    1. I can't believe how fast January went by. I've been trying to spend more time reading, because I really do love it. But it's definitely hard to find the time.

  14. Lana, I heard the weather has definitely been different on the west cost than it usually is... We have had more rain than normal too... I'm not fond of rain but I can handle that over snow. Congratulations on getting all your exercise in, that is great... I am doing a little something everyday, hopefully I can continue to build on it xox

    1. So glad you're getting back to exercising. Yep, our weather has been strange and we had a big snowstorm here on Monday, which is unusual for us!
