TBB Book Review: May Reads

"You can't buy happiness, but you can buy books.  And that's kind of the same thing".
Another month of reading has gone by in The Blended Blog's Virtual Book Club, and today we're sharing our reviews and linking up.  We love new members, and have something fun planned for June, so if you'd like to join us, fill out this form and we'll send you all the details.

To be honest, I'm not feeling very well today.  But I loved the books I read this month, and wanted to share them.  So this will be short and sweet, and then I'm heading to bed!

I started the month with The Shack by William Paul Young.  There has been so much hype surrounding this book and the movie, and I figured it couldn't live up to expectations.  Boy, was I wrong.  It has become one of my favorite books ever, and I plan to read it over and over again.

The Shack covers some deep, dark material.  But it's also so hopeful and joyful.  Be prepared for heartbreaking and uplifting, all in the same chapter, and keep the tissues close. Whether or not you are religious, this book is a must read for everyone.

All the thumbs up!

My second book was The Arrangement by Sarah Dunn, and I'm not sure I could have picked anything more different from The Shack.  By the way, if you watch American Housewife, Sarah Dunn is the creator and executive producer, and there's a character in this book that also lives on the show.

After ten years of marriage, Lucy and Owen decide to embark on a short experiment of non-monogamy.  What follows is not what they expected, and I didn't either.  This book was a quick read, with a cast of interesting characters and complex story lines, all intertwining (hmm...that might not be the best choice of words) in the end.  This was a thought provoking book for anyone in a long term relationship.

Thumbs up.

  7. I'm so glad to read a review about The Arrangment. I also read it in May and felt the same as you. It totally went a way I wasn't expecting and I'm still thinking about it. Sarah Dunn did a great job.

  9. I thought the shack sounded really dark, so I am interested to know that it was religious and uplifting at times- it is getting lots of press!

  12. I hope you feel better! The Shack intrigues me. I had wanted to read it before seeing the movie, but I think the movie sort of bombed. I bet the book didn't at all!

  14. I read The Shack many years ago, and really enjoyed it. Every time I watch American Housewife, I definitely laugh out loud and am looking forward to the new season. I'm not sure The Arrangement is for me though. Hope all is well! Hugs...RO

  15. Listened to The Shack years ago when it first came out. I would listen driving to and from work and on errands. I think my mind wandered a lot or perhaps, I just had forgotten much of the story. The movie was wonderful, I thought, and helped me remember what I had listened to so long ago.
I really didn't want to read or like The Arrangement but did both. Guess I need to check out The American Housewife on TV, too.
Love that you said The Shack gets an 'all thumbs up'. Cutie!
