TBB Book Review: September Reads

The Blended Blog book club is in full swing again, and today we're sharing our September reads.  We're always accepting new members so let me know if you'd like to join in the fun.

This month's theme was "favorite authors", and Sheila, Deena and Alison came up with such great titles, I decided to read them all!

First up was Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, chosen by Alison.  I haven't read anything from the fantasy genre for years (Tolkien and Pullman count, right?).  Alison pitched this as a stand alone book, and I liked the idea of dipping my toes back in the water without the commitment of an entire series.

I really enjoyed this book.  The story was interesting, the characters were well developed, and the pace was quick.  All the qualities of a great fantasy tale!  It reminded me why I enjoyed this genre years ago, and I'll definitely be picking up more titles by this author.

I moved on to Deena's pick, Tapestry of Fortunes by Elizabeth Berg.  Deena introduced me to this author a few years ago, and I've read several of her books since then.  This one is my new favorite!

The story follows Cecilia, who puts her career on hold, sells her home, and spur of the moment rents a room in a house with a group of women.  Her motivation is the death of her best friend, and the desire to live each moment to the fullest.  Eventually the women embark on a road trip together to tie up loose ends and look for new beginnings.  I was so sorry to see this book end - maybe there will be a sequel!

The third book, A Year In Provence by Peter Mayle, was chosen by Sheila.  I'm about halfway through this "travel memoir" about a British couple who purchase a home in France, and so far it's really good.  More to come next month.

Head over to The Blended Blog to link up your book reviews, and go here to see what we'll be reading in October.  Hope you'll join us!

  1. Looks like you've had a great reading month! I just read Wonder, which is an October TBB pick and I absolutely loved it!!

  2. Tapestry of Fortunes by Elizabeth Berg sounds excellent. I've read a book or two by her before and really enjoyed it. It's been years though, I might need to pick one up in the next month.

  3. I haven't heard of Elizabeth Beg, but I'm going to have to add Tapestry of Fortunes to my to read list. It sounds like a book I'd enjoy!

  4. Good month of reading in my opinion. Love finding new books through friends.

  5. I've heard great things about Tapestry of Fortunes. Loving your review

  6. Wow, I have always loved Elizabeth Berg but I can't remember the last time I read one of her books.

  7. Warbreaker is one of my favorite books written by Brandon Sanderson. The story is based on an exceptional tale of magic, mysterious places, and fantasies. I also wanted to compose a book or novel but I don't know how much does it cost to self-publish a book as of 2021? If someone knows that then let me know.

  8. All students dread exams, but this is a part of earning a grade no matter their learning level. A few students How Much Should I Pay Someone To Take My Online Exam experience severe anxiety during test preparation or when taking the test. With online courses, you might think the situation is different. It’s your choice where to take the exam.
