My New Happy: The Gift of Vision

The Gift of Vision

I have worn glasses since second grade.  On the way home from my first eye doctor visit, we drove by a pasture that I had seen a million times.  "Oh, those are sheep", I told my mom, looking through my new spectacles. "I always thought they were rocks".

Forty years later, I'm still "blind as a bat", without the cool sonar to get around.  I can't even see the alarm clock in the morning until I put my glasses on.  It's hard to imagine what it would be like if I didn't have access to eye care and corrective lenses - I would be moving through the day in a haze.

Unfortunately, millions of people in the world aren't as lucky as I am, leaving them unable to effectively learn or work.

Enter Warby Parker, a designer eyewear company that believes that buying glasses should leave you happy and good looking, with money in your pocket.  Their frames are stylish, yet practical.  And very economical - every pair is just $95.00.

They also believe that everyone has the right to see.  For every pair of glasses purchased, Warby Parker donates to their non-profit partners, who train men and women to give basic eye exams and provide glasses to their communities around the world at affordable prices.

I selected five sample pairs online and had them sent to my house.  The frames were sturdy and well made, and I was very happy with the quality.  The designs I chose were fun and different than the style I usually wear.

Overall, I would recommend Warby Parker if you're looking for a unique, high quality pair of glasses at a reasonable price, with the added benefit of helping someone in the world with the gift of vision.

As they say at Warby Parker....There's nothing complicated about it.  Good eyewear, good outcome.

**I was not compensated by Warby Parker for this review.  I was loaned samples from the company, and all opinions are my own**

  1. Thanks for sharing information about this company Lana! I will definitely consider them for my next pair. I wonder if they make frames for small faces? I am often steered to the children's department - and Tinkle Bell frames are cute, but ...
So nice to hear that they provide the gift of vision to those who cannot afford it. I love the sunglasses on you!

    2. I get mine from 1-800-Contacts. They always have free shipping and get them out very quickly.

  3. I've worn glasses since about the 5th grade and now find that I can't see close up if I'm wearing my glasses. Guess that means it's bifocal time. Getting older bites!

    1. No kidding. I just got new contacts for distance - and now I can't see close up. I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of reading glasses - and now I look like my parents!

  4. I've always had good vision but I've noticed things like not being able to read the guide on the TV, or things further away, but also small print. I've worn some cheap Walmart readers for the last year but I finally broke down and made myself an appointment when I take mom next week. Sounds like a great thing to get involved in! I will definitely check them out!

    1. Now my far away and close up distance are bad. Sigh.

  5. I think about this more and more...

I am amazed when I take my glasses off how little I can see. I am so thankful for glasses.

  6. My twis sis and I got glasses in 1st grade at which point our teacher complimented us for having done so well before then, recognizing that we could not see the board. I am impressed that Warby Parker's RX glasses are just $95 a pair. Great price!

    1. I was impressed with the price too - and they were very good quality, not flimsy at all.

  7. Recently, I've been annoyed with my current glasses. While searching for frames I came across a web site that promises to sell high quality, accurate prescription eyewear for a fraction of the cost of any traditional provider - GlassesShop.com. Then, I order a pair of tortoise glasses and it just cost me $39(including shipping). Really good experience and strongly recommend it.
