My Favorite Hair Products (For Now)

I'm pretty mean to my hair.  Since I'm not a natural blonde (shocker, I know), every six weeks I do this:

My boys cracked up when they saw this picture.  They had no idea this is what getting your hair foiled looks like. Must be nice to roll out of bed and put on a baseball cap instead.

Anyway....I also use a blow dryer and sometimes a straightener or curling iron.  All of that abuse is pretty hard on my thick, wavy hair, so I'm constantly trying new products to minimize the damage.  These are my favorites right now.

  • L'Oreal Extraordinary Clay Shampoo and Conditioner.  I try to only wash my hair a few times a week, and these new rebalancing products keep my roots from getting oily, and the ends from getting dry.  Plus it smells really yummy.
  • Eva-nyc Therapy Session Hair Mask.  Once a week I use this as a conditioner, and leave it on for about ten minutes.  It makes my hair super shiny and soft.
  • Avon Argon Oil Leave In Treatment.  If I'm going for a straighter style, I always apply this before drying my hair.  A tiny bit goes a long way, and it smooths out the curls and controls frizz.
  • Alterna Caviar CC Cream.  This is my choice for wavier hairstyles.  Another great product for softness and bouncy curls.
  • Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo Powder.  Between washings a dry shampoo is a must, and I've tried a bunch.  This one is the best!  It's a powder instead of a spray, so you can easily apply it exactly where needed.  It soaks up oil and adds a little volume.

What are your favorite hair products?

  2. I swear by Batiste Shampoo, only wash once a week and my new fave is the DryBar Blonde Ade shampoo. Purple shampoo is pretty much all I use. Keeps my hair from getting brassy. I stay away from drugstore shampoo because it's just loaded with bad stuff for us blondes that strip the color out of our hair and cause yellowing.

  5. Your hair always looks so awesome. It looks so soft, I just want to touch it, in a non-creepy way of course. I need to try that shampoo and conditioner, as soon as I run out my current stuff, but washing your hair once a week, makes it take a LONG time to get through anything. Plus I've been showering at the gym and using their stuff...they have the best stuff there...

    1. Gym stuff is always so good! I wish I could do only once a week - I'm trying to train my hair but so far three days is all I can get away with.

  6. I love the picture of you with the foils, haha!!!! My boys would laugh at me too they have NO IDEA what we go through, right?! I wish I had thick, wavy hair. Mine is thin and fine and living in this hot, humid climate leaves me looking like a drowned rat half the time. You have beautiful hair!

  7. Brave woman you! It is good to prepare your boys in the upkeep of women! I have wild curly coarse think hair that frizzes if I touch it or on whim. I am always interested in what tames the locks.

  8. I've only heard of the BnB dry shampoo but I wash my hair every day so I've never tried it. I want to try the shampoo/conditioner and the hair mask you mentioned though! I started a hair products post but never finished it. You've inspired me...

    1. I'll have to share that with my colorist - she'll be so happy. We try to make it look natural, but it's hard with blonde. Thanks Carrie!

  11. Lana you have some great product ideas there. I'm going to look up the shampoo and the bumble dry shampoo. I normally borrow miss 22 Batiste if desperate. I also have greasy roots and dry ends so the clay sounds interesting.

  13. The clay shampoo and conditioner intrigues me, and I am definitely interested in the Eva-NYC hair mask. I am constantly abusing my hair with heat, but am trying to do better by at least letting it air dry more often.

  14. Ha ha, fabulous picture! I also have thick dry curly hair. I use L Oreal, and a conditioner and a one minute mask. And once a week I (always wash my hair before I go to bed) I'll leave a mask in for a whole night!

  17. Chemically treated hair, gets weak with continuous treatment and washing, as chemicals ultimately deposits toxins in hair follicles, thereby making hair weaker from within. har vokse doesn't work
