My New Happy: The Year Ahead

The Year Ahead

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a great weekend, and for all my East Coast friends, hope you didn't get too much snow.  Thanks for the feedback on last Friday's post.  For now I'll just keep going and see where it takes me.

Which leads me to today's prompt with The Blended Blog.  Resolutions and new beginnings.  For years, I dutifully made a list of resolutions, usually while watching Dick Clark's New Year's Eve show.  Which was SO much better than the current Ryan Seacrest version.  But I digress.

I don't do resolutions anymore.  You get to a certain point in your life when you realize that some things need to change right now, not next Monday, and not when January rolls around.  Last October I started down a healthier path, mostly because I didn't have a choice.  It's a work in progress, but I've made more steps forward than back, so that's a win.

I'm trying to look at the bigger picture in 2019.  What do I want?  What do I need?  I didn't choose a specific word, but "possibility" keeps popping into my head when I think about the year to come.  Happy, positive, and joy are also contenders.

One of the areas I'm trying to work on is framing things in a more positive way.  Rather than seeing this whole empty nest thing as bad, I'm looking at all the possibilities that have opened up to me.   There are things I want to do with my blog.  I want to write more, travel more, and spend more time with my husband.  I want to meet new people and find out what I can learn from them.  I want to stretch myself, scare myself, and expect myself to be brave.  When next January rolls around, I want to be amazed at the year that was.

The possibilities truly are endless.

Be sure to head over to TBB and link up your posts!

  2. It's definitely a new chapter in our lives, isn't it, Lana?? But that's a good thing. I just started the Forever Fierce book club book, and it's a great thought that everyone may need a little change.

  7. I have struggled in the past when I realized that I would never hold my own baby again. I didn't know how/what my life without little, little kids looked like, but like you I am really trying to focus on the opportunities that still lay ahead. When we met this summer, I was drawn to the fact that you and your husband are finding new ways to reconnect and be without the kids. I always think about that. Plus, how many things you are able to accomplish in a day, just blew me away. I am looking forward to reading and seeing what you have in store for 2019.

    1. Thank you so much Bo! Meeting you last summer was one of the highlights of my year. I still get a little panicky when I think about the boys being all grown up, and I can never go back. But onward and upward!

  8. I think possibilities is a great word for the year! I don't really set any resolutions either, although I do have the goal this year of spending less on fashion than I did last year, haha! As I always have!

Hope that you are having a great start to your week :) I just posted my weekday wear linkup, I'd love you to join! :)

  9. Lana, I love this post, and your outlook on 2019! Possibilities is an amazing thing to focus on, and just saying yes to some of those possibilities! I'm with you on the resolutions, too many years of setting and failing. For me, I'm just working on 5 daily habits...5 small, manageable things I do daily that over time will result in big changes. I'll let you know how it goes!

  10. I don't really think of my goals for the year as resolutions, because they are all things that I've been doing or wanting to do and I'm just trying to continue on my way. Like eating better/being more active; it's a work in progress. I just want to up my game, so to speak, this year!

  11. I didn't pick a word either. I like the idea of framing things in a more positive way. I need that. Hope you have a great week, Lana.

  12. Happy Monday Lana :) I watched Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen New Years Eve.. it was just ok, I’ll have to tune into Dick Clark next year. Positive thinking has been the key to my success. I stepped out on a limb last year and took my chances as a full time artist. I just keep it positive and repeated positive thoughts in my head. I’m not rich but I’m thriving. The possibilities truly are endless :)
