Life Lately - Summer Edition

Howdy, howdy!  I'm back from an unexpected two week blogging break.  Week one was spent hanging out with college boy as he prepared to head back to school, and last week I was feeling sad about college boy heading back to school.  Is it easier the second year? More on that below.

I can't believe it's the last week of August.  It's been a really good summer, but it sure went by fast.  We've spent a ton of time outdoors, enjoying the warm weather.  Hiking, boating, ball games, bbq's, and our annual trip to the beach.

Here's a little life lately...

*** I'm close to being finished with the active portion of my Invisalign.  I'm all done with new trays, and in a few days I get to switch to night time wear only.  It's been a long 18 months, but my orthodontist is happy with the end result, and I'm thrilled.

*** I also have long-ish eyelashes for the first time in my life.  My cousin convinced me to try Rodan & Fields Lash Boost, and it really does work.  I started using it four months ago and have cut back to every other night because they were actually getting too long.  Now I need a good, thickening mascara.  Any suggestions?

*** When we picked Thomas up from school in May, having him home for three and a half months felt like forever. But the days flew by, and last weekend he headed back for his second year.  Was it any easier letting him go this time? Maybe a little, but not because I miss him any less.  For the first few days, I let myself be sad.  And then I decided not to think about the sadness anymore.  Last year I needed to grieve and let it all out, and that process took weeks. Now I know that he's happy and doing well, and he's where he's supposed to be, learning the things he needs to learn. And that's the most important thing. I'm still counting down the weeks until he comes home...

*** Our garden did amazing!  I'm officially tired of zucchini and cucumbers.  We've been giving them away to family, friends, neighbors, and people walking by on the street...

*** Unfortunately, we were the victims of identity theft.  I've spent so much time on the phone trying to undo the damage that's been done.  We have no idea how/when our information was stolen, but we're aware that a person in Texas has been using it to open credit cards and who knows what else.  I've got a whole post coming with the step by step process of what to do if this happens to you, because I've learned a lot.  In the meantime, pay attention if you don't get mail for a few days.  The thief had our mail forwarded to them, and that was the first we knew of the problem.  Yes, someone can go online and fill out a mail forwarding request for you.  Scary stuff.

*** I'm one week into The Faster Way To Fat Loss program, and I love it.  I'll have a full review when my six weeks is up, but let me just say that I thoroughly enjoy having someone tell me how to work out and what to eat every day.  For those of you doing low carb/carb cycling, these salad dressings are the bomb.

That's a little life lately.  As I write this, Texas is being hit with catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey. I'm sending thoughts and prayers to all those affected.  My friend put together a list of organizations that are working in the area, and I've shared them on my Facebook page if you're looking for a way to help.

Have a good week, friends!  I'll be back tomorrow on The Blended Blog sharing an easy, delicious recipe for blackberry cobbler.

    1. I keep thinking about you putting your Invisalign in only at night in Vegas - and I was so jealous because I felt like I'd never get there. I'm so happy to be at the end!

  6. Yikes! Identity Theft scares me! I would love to read your upcoming post on it. I am so jealous you're done with Invisalign! I'm on like on Tray 16 of 24 of my second set of revisions and then if I don't have anymore revisions, I will be wearing them full-time for 6 months before I go to every evening. Your smile looks so, so good... it's perfect! It is def worth it! I will look forward to sipping warm drinks all day NEXT winter when I'm done (I hope!).

    1. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous to go straight to night time wear, since I was expecting to wear the last try for 6 months. After all this work, I don't want to go backwards. If they start feeling tight, I have a feeling I'll keep them in for longer!

  7. Your smile is beautiful and only adds to your beauty. I'm so sorry about that awful Texas and the identity theft issue. Grateful for time with your boy and the summer was full of joy. Hugs!

  8. Has it been 18 months?! I remember when you were first thinking about it! Now you get to reap the rewards! Well done! I hear you on the college boys! One of mine is actually commuting his last semester so we'll have him for a few more months before he hits the road for his year-long around the USA trip! 😥 So I'm totally tracking with you!

  10. Lana, I agree with you first on the college thing. Year two was a little better only because I know my son is happier and less anxious. I still miss him so much! Last year I grieved and was depressed for a couple months honestly. Adjusting to him being gone was so hard. So in that respect this year (all 2 weeks) has been a bit better. I think we are totally on the same page.
I also agree with you about that Opa salad dressing. I love that Feta Dill so much I could put it on everything! I had to stop buying it because I was overdoing it, ha!
Your invisalign results are great!!! I had braces as a kid and as an adult, a hassle but well worth it to have a smile you're happy with.
    Here's to choosing happy days!

    1. I agree Kellyann - I think year two is better because I know that my son is really happy at school and I don't worry about him as much. Yes, happy days!

  11. Whoa. Super scary about identity theft! So sorry about that.
Your teeth look amazing! Your lashes too.

As for Thomas, I've been mulling around all day with Scarlet in school and that's third grade. I honestly don't know how I'll survive what's to come. I guess we just take it little by little!
